When pets are already ill, diagnostic and treatment procedures need to be catered to their situation to minimize any unnecessary stress. Desert Inn Animal Hospital invests in advanced technology to provide accurate diagnosis and treatment options without stressing pets.
An endoscope is a long flexible camera that can be used to view the inside of the digestive tract. Our veterinarians are able to use the endoscope to diagnose many conditions of the stomach and intestines. The endoscope can also be fitted with a tool to remove foreign bodies that the pet may have ingested, and it can be used to take biopsy samples of the stomach or intestines in cases of chronic diarrhea, vomiting, or weight loss.
For the pet’s safety, endoscopy is done while the pet is under anesthesia.
By making a small incision in the abdomen, our veterinarians can insert a lighted tube called a laparoscope to view the internal organs. The laparoscope is used to check for abnormal tissue, take biopsy samples, and perform a variety of surgeries. Surgeries that can be done laparoscopically have lower risks and faster recovery times than traditional surgery. While laparoscopic surgery has become a common option in human medicine, it is just becoming available in veterinary medicine, and Desert Inn Animal Hospital is fortunate to have the skilled surgeons to offer this service to our patients.
